Verification

Students are randomly selected for Verification by the Central Processing System. This is a process whereby the financial aid office must retain proof of your income and household information reported. Students who are selected must complete a Verification Worksheet and submit a copy of signed tax documents to the financial aid office.

Dependent students must also supply a copy of their parent’s signed tax documents. In addition, the parent must complete, sign, and date the Verification Worksheet.

Acceptable types of tax documents do NOT include summary pages often provided by tax preparers. The submitted tax documents must list your household adjusted gross income and wages, taxes due, number of exemptions, and education tax credits. The most common types of tax documents submitted are the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ with accompanying W-2’s or 1099’s.

What if I didn’t file taxes?

If you were not required to file, you may complete and submit a Non-Tax Filer Statement. If you are not sure if you were required to file, click here. In addition, if your source of income was from social security, disability, and so on, please submit a statement of your income for the tax year from that agency.

What if I have an extension?

If you applied for an extension, you must submit a copy of the IRS approved extension and a copy of your estimated taxes (1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ). Once you file, you must submit a final copy of your taxes to the financial aid office. Failure to do so will result in loss of your aid eligibility.
